An Introduction To Zion Lutheran

Zion is a small congregation serving the Glenbrook area of Stamford. Over one hundred years old, Zion has a tradition of caring for the community. Zion continues to be committed to our neighbors with programs such as Zion's Food Pantry; "Noah's Ark", our community nursery school; our ongoing involvement cooking and serving meals at Covenant House, an area shelter; and festivals such as Octoberfest and the Strawberry Festival. Our Sanctuary has been featured on tours of Stamford's most beautiful churches, with special consideration given to our intricate stained glass windows. We describe our worship style as traditional with contemporary elements, and our congregation as warm and caring. If you are new to the Stamford area, we would love to have you join us!

Zion is a church of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America (ELCA). Although we are part of the ELCA's New England Synod, all church business is conducted by our congregation through tri-annual Voter's Assemblies, by the Church Council acting on behalf of the members of the congregation, and by an Executive Steering Committee.

The council is made up of the officers of the church, the Pastor, and the chairperson of each of Zion's six boards. They meet monthly to advise and coordinate the activities of the various boards and the congregation as a whole. Zion's six boards are: Stewardship, Outreach, Youth, Trustees, Elders, and Christian Education.

The Steering Committee is a five person committee consisting of the Congregation President, Vice-President, the Pastor, and two Members-at-large appointed by the Church Council. This committee handles day to day operations at Zion.
